During this cultural expedition, you will enjoy the best of Northern Viet Nam in the areas of Mai Chau, Lai Chau and Sa Pa. The mountainous North West provides the perfect terrain for trekking routes. The Thai minority, a warm and friendly ethnic group, will welcome you into their homes and share their stilt house lifestyle. The roads wind precariously across the mountain ranges, capturing the intensely varied lifestyles of Vietnamese people. The final two days of your journey will be spent for trekking in minority villages around Sa Pa.

Traveling to the province of Hoa Binh, we pass through a region of spectacular limestone mountains and tea plantations to arrive in Mai Chau. We spend the night in a village long house of the White Thai minority, experiencing their wonderful hospitality, traditional dancing and rice wine. Overnight at hotel in Mai Chau.
The road to Son La is lined with fruit orchards, tea plantations, towering mountains and the traffic of Black Thai, Mea, Muong and White Thai hill tribe people heading to markets. We visit the Prison Museum, which remains as a poignant reminder of the inequities of the former French colonial rule. Overnight at hotel in Son La.
Impressive scenery, and hill tribe villages fill the journey to Dien Bien Phu, the last bastion of French power in Indochina. Monuments, museums and preserved bunkers tell the story of the final and victorious liberating battle of 1954. Overnight at hotel in Dien Bien
Sometimes steep and often rugged, the road through the Lai Chau valley is both breathtaking and dramatic. Hugging rice terraced mountainsides and fording turbulent rivers, our travels today are visually spectacular. Overnight at hotel in Tam Duong.
As we traverse Tram Ton Pass, the highest mountain pass in Viet Nam, we are afforded magnificent views and experience a dramatic change of climate as we approach the old French Hill Station of Sa Pa. A busy market town for the regions minority groups, the town is encircled with towering peaks, often shrouded in cloud, and the air is cool and crisp. Overnight at hotel in Sapa.
Breakfast at hotel and you will have a full day to trek to Lao Chai and Ta Van valley, which is nested by H'mong, Day and Red Dao people. We have a picnic lunch en route during the trek. Visit the suspension bridge Cau May, Su Pan Village, home to Red Dao. Stay overnight in hotel.
This morning we climb up to Ham Rong Mountain, which gives you a great panoramic view over Sapa and its surrounding areas, and you can explore two orchid gardens. After hotel check out, we travel to valley Ta Phin, where the Red Dao and H'mong live. Drive back to Lao Cai Railway Station. Our train leaves Lao Cai Railway station at 9:15 pm to Hanoi. Overnight on the train.
Arrive in Hanoi early morning, check in mini hotel for have short break and shower. Breakfast at hotel. Check out hotel. Have a full day Hanoi city tour: Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum (closed on Monday, Friday and the whole months of October-November) and His Residence, One-Pillar Pagoda, Temple of Literature, built in the 11th century as Vietnam’s first university, Hoan Kiem Lake with Ngoc Son Temple, explore Old Quarter during a 1-hour cyclo ride. Enjoy water puppet show. Overnight in Hanoi.
